IN CONVERSATION WITH… Recycled Water

Current Music: Well, I guess I’m listening to myself. How vain.
Current Mood: cheerful

For those of you who don’t know, my challenge this year has been to write and perform one comedy song a week on Perth’s local radio station, RTR.

It is possible to listen to it from their website, but seeing as I’m generally performing just before 7.00am (GMT +8.00), I’m wondering if I should podcast it… what do you guys think?

Here’s the song I’m singing tomorrow — written today…

RECYCLED WATER

Drinking recycled water, should be managed by Coca Cola
They have a knack for making any crap taste nice
In and out, its roundabouts, down the toilet and down the spout
It’s a practical solution for a country facing drought
… and all the water’s running out…

People think its dirty, and people think its wrong
They don’t think about where their water already comes from
If you’re living downstream, the odds are 30%
That you’re already drinking someone else’s effluent
(treated, of course)

It’s purified by a process that we call reverse osmosis
You can drink your own shit and not suffer from halitosis
Filtered through a clever membrane that
catches the crap that we flush down the drain
… and pumps it back into the mains…

Its done scientifically, its healthy and its clean
Yeah, they do it in the US and they do it in Berlin
But in sunburnt, dry Australia, we still think its naughty,
But its not like we’ll be Ghandi — drinking straight from the potty

When the water’s running out, we’ll be wondering what all this fuss was about
It seems to me, we simply need good marketing… and that’s why…

Drinking recycled water, should be managed by Coca Cola
They have a knack for making any crap taste nice
In and out, its roundabouts, down the toilet and down the spout
It’s a practical solution for a country facing drought
… and all the water’s running out…

Maybe Coke can buy out Canberra
With the money they’ll save fnow they don’t colour Fanta

If you can make brown water clear
You could have a great career
Recycling your own urea
Get knighted and be a peer…

Or am I taking the piss?
